Nature`s Wisdom: Perseverance
How is your new year coming along?
We often make commitments to certain goals and along the way, things happen, life throws us something else and in those moments, you wonder what the heck you are supposed to do. Have you ever had those moments?
I`m going to come out and say it, life is full of unexpected surprises, twists, turns and yes distractions. Believe me, I know all about that. As I commit to my goal to shift in a new direction, all kinds of things pop up in my life that require my attention. These are not things I can delegate, unfortunately. So that brought me down a road where I was getting upset and started hating all these `obligations` that were taking me away from MY goals.
As always, Nature reminds me that each path is UNIQUE. Each organism in nature is creating a path that is unique for that organism. Nature does not look at what the other organisms are doing, each one puts its energy on its own unique journey…
Since I had already learned that lesson, I wanted to dig in deeper into this knowledge because I really wanted to learn how to navigate what was happening in my life. This is when nature opened up about her secrets on perseverance.
Here are the key points that I learned from Nature:
No matter what shows up, keep going.
This means that distractions, feeling stuck, overwhelmed, challenged, or like you are going backwards are all part of the ride. All of those show up in Nature, under different names such as: floods, freezing rain, tornadoes, droughts, mankind, yet nature stays on course with who she is. She keeps going, growing, surviving and creating from who she is.
Let go of outcomes
Nature’s trust in herself and in today creates the vision for tomorrow.
She doesn’t plan for outcomes, she creates the outcomes. Nature never knows ahead of time what she will have to deal with. All she can do is commit to persevering in her capacity to grow, adapt and change. What comes from her perseverance to her growth and survival reveals results and outcomes that always seem to amaze the onlooker yet Nature was just being nature.
Accept the unknown
There are no guarantees in nature. The only guarantee that is in her control is her perseverance to her growth, her survival and her adaptability. This perseverance to create Nature is the guarantee. It does not mean that what will come of this is foreseeable. Nature is always allowing herself to create a new path, an unimaginable solution, an unforeseen outcome. Look at nature’s capacity to adapt to everything that comes her way. She has shown us time and again her resilience by not getting caught up in creating what was there in the past. Nature creates from today, never putting effort at creating what use to be. Her growth, her survival brings her on a road that reveals exactly who she is at that moment.
Nature`s faced adversity, its overcome obstacles, its surrendered to situations that were bigger than her.
She doesn’t get distracted by what we perceive as loss. She is steadfast to herself, persevering on her path to growth, transformation and adaptability.
No matter what takes place with the weather, with circumstances, situations, nature deals with what shows up now.
As long as there is life left in her, Nature creates from today, not setting long term goals yet generating a new path, a new branch, a new outcome from a place of long term results. Creating a forest, a collaboration and a cooperation of organisms.
Showing up does not mean that we take action, nature’s perseverance comes from surrender, from the tiniest steps that are invisible to our eyes yet it maintains the path of growth, survival, creation that is perceived as perseverance.
It’s the only way that mother nature has found to get through those situations, circumstances and events that show up in her life.
Nature works with what is present, she adapts and creates with what is there today. She doesn’t try to recreate the past, she doesn’t try to create something for others, she creates the present for the future.
What is perceived as perseverance is nature’s commitment to her survival, growth and capacity to adapt and adjust to external situations that she faces daily.
What makes you want to persevere? Where do you persevere at being yourself in your life?
What if we persevered in our commitment to express, reveal, execute and convey who we are to the world? Exactly like Nature.
